What is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100?

When it comes to the products closest to your family's skin, you deserve to know exactly what's in them. That's why at Covers n Cuddles; we proudly carry products certified to the OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 — one of the world's most trusted and recognised textile safety certifications.

A Global Standard Built on Science

The OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 was established in 1992 by the OEKO-TEX® Association, an independent international organisation headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. What began as a response to growing consumer concern about harmful chemicals in textiles has grown into a globally respected certification system, with over 22,000 brands and manufacturers certified across more than 100 countries.

Every product bearing the OEKO-TEX® label has been independently tested and verified by one of 18 authorised OEKO-TEX® institutes worldwide — meaning you're not just taking a brand's word for it.

What Does It Actually Test For?

The OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 tests for more than 100 harmful substances, including heavy metals, pesticides, formaldehyde, pH levels, colourants, and chemical residues — all the things you'd never want touching your little one's skin. The testing criteria are scientifically based and regularly updated to stay ahead of current research and emerging chemical concerns, often exceeding the requirements of national and international regulations.

Products are classified into categories based on intended use, with Product Class I — the most stringent — covering items designed for babies and toddlers under 36 months, such as bodysuits, bedding, and soft toys.

Why It Matters for Your Family

Babies and young children have delicate, permeable skin that absorbs substances far more readily than adult skin. They also spend more time in direct contact with textiles — sleeping, feeding, and playing — making the safety of those materials especially important. An OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification gives you confidence that what's touching your child's skin has been rigorously tested and found free from harmful levels of toxic substances.

It's not just about baby products either. For the whole family, choosing OEKO-TEX® certified textiles means choosing products that are safer for sensitive skin, reducing the risk of irritation, allergies, and long-term chemical exposure.

Trust You Can See

Every certified product carries a unique licence number that you can verify directly on the OEKO-TEX® website at www.oeko-tex.com. This transparency is what sets the standard apart — it's independently audited, publicly verifiable, and renewed annually, so certification is never just a one-time tick of a box.

At Covers n Cuddles, we believe that comfort and safety go hand in hand. When you shop with us, you can feel confident that the products we carry meet some of the highest textile safety standards in the world — because your family deserves nothing less.
